“On the Fray”
We invite you to celebrate our fundraising event,” On the Fray”, at O’Lunney’s pub on Saturday, April 4 at 7:30pm. We will host an evening of performances to celebrate and support Threads Theater Company’s upcoming theater season!
“On the Fray” will feature live music from Phoebe Lyng, Samantha Brown and Andy Roda. Special guests include Elaine Williams, Hannelies Hartman and Virginia Pike. In addition to music other festivities include: food, a trivia contest, prizes and more!

• Bobby Bradley: Bobby is honored to join the Threads leadership team and take over the role of Production Manager. Bobby first worked with Threads as the lighting designer for The Pearl Merchant in 2008. *A SNEAK PREVIEW OF THREADS 2009/2010 SEASON….*
Twilight (for production in summer 2009)
Twilight by Monica Flory is continuing its development through the Threads percolator! Twilight is that mysterious time of day when wolves howl, accidents happen, and life collides with death. Inspired by surrealist photography, Twilight infuses ordinary small town life with the supernatural. And no, it’s not based on the vampire series! New titles for the play are under discussion.
*Closed table readings are being held this spring in preparation for a premier performance of the play during the summer of 2009 directed by Misti B. Wills.
About the playwright:
Monica Flory is a Brooklyn-based playwright, director, and teacher. She is the Resident Playwright at the New Acting Company in Greenwich Village, where her play ONCE UPON A PANDORA’S BOX was recently produced. Her newest play, TWILIGHT, has been featured in a series of writer’s forums with Threads Theater Company. Recent productions include THIRD WHEEL at Manhattan Comedy Collective and Emerging Artists Theatre; JUNGLE BOOK at Youth Theatre Northwest, Southern Oregon University, and New Acting Company; LA LLORONA at University of Maryland Baltimore County; SCRATCH at Theatre-Studio, Inc.; and WILD THING at the New Acting Company. Her plays are published by Playscripts and Smith & Kraus. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild.
Babette’s Feast (for production in 2010)
Babette’s Feast is the story of a small, austere religious community in a Norwegian seaside town. A mysterious French woman, through great personal sacrifice, provides a feast and introduces the community to the essence of grace. Through wine, delicious food, and conversation, cold religious ascetics are able to love and forgive one another, and after a lifetime of fear and blind rule-following, experience faith for the first time.
About the playwrights:
Abigail Killeen served for ten years as an artist-in-residence at National Theater for Arts and Education, working to adapt works of literature for educational theatrical tours, including works like Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird and Homer’s Odyssey. She is also the creator of two original works: Light in Darkness, a unique theatrical celebration of the season of Advent, and The Body Restored: Glimpsing Divine Glory in Women, an experimental theatre project investigating body and image disorders. The pieces were created in 2002 and 2003 and continue to be produced around the country. Abigail is a professor of acting at Bowdoin College.
Rose Courtney is a performer and playwright. She is the author of Met, which premiered at Circle Rep LAB under the direction of Peg Denithorne. Her vaudeville comedy, Cycle, for which she also created original music with composer/multi-instrumentalist Rachel Kaufman, was honored as a finalist in the New Works of Merit Playwriting Contest. Cycle has subsequently been produced at the Cherry Lane Studio Theatre in NYC and the NY International Fringe Festival, where it was praised by critics, including The Village Voice, which called it, “an inspired, overdue, and rather brave counterweight to a decade of ‘edge’.” With Project 400 Theatre Group, Rose collaborated on the creation of many original works, all directed by Diane Paulus, and she has performed her own stand-up comedy writing at venues such as Caroline’s, The Improv, Stand-Up New York, and The Duplex. Rose is a graduate of Vassar College, New Actors Workshop and the Eugene O’Neill Center’s National Theatre Institute, and is also a member of the Dramatists Guild.

*MONOLOGUE WORKSHOP UPDATE*
Got a repertoire? Threads is pleased to have successfully launched two installments of our newest venture, Monologue Workshops. Special guest instructors Frank Mihelich and George Drance led the participants through warm-ups and monologue technique. The actors who attended have responded positively to receiving personal attention and coaching as they prepare for that drudgery known as auditions.
